Donald F. Larson is an independent researcher and founder of the International Institute for Development and Environmental Studies. He holds a PH.D. in agricultural and resource economics from the University of Maryland, as well as degrees in economics from Virginia Tech and the College of William and Mary. Don has written on a range of topics with a focus on rural development, natural resource management, food security, carbon markets and trade. With colleagues he has authored or edited six books, and has published in a diverse range of scholarly journals, including the Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management,Annales d’Economie et Statistique, the Journal of Futures Markets and the World Bank Economic Review. He has worked with governments on policy issues in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, Latin America and the South Pacific. Don was also part of a World Bank team that launched the first climate-finance fund, the Prototype Carbon Fund, in 1999.
