Dragos Gontarius

Geospatial Analyst and GIS Specialist

Dragos Gontariu is a geospatial analyst and GIS specialist with more than 15 years of experience in Earth Observation, remote sensing, and spatial data analysis. Since joining the World Bank in 2020, he has contributed to projects focused on disaster risk management, flood analysis, urban resilience, and women’s economic empowerment through geospatial methodologies and decision-support tools. His work combines GIS, remote sensing, data science, and automation to support evidence-based planning and policy development across multiple regions, including Europe, Africa, and South Asia. Dragos has extensive experience developing geospatial frameworks, interactive dashboards, and open-source tools, including the Zonify QGIS plugin for advanced zonal statistics and spatial analytics. He holds an MSc in GIS for Spatial Planning and Sustainable Development and a Bachelor’s degree in Geodesy from the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest.
