Senior Social Development Specialist

Éden Dava is a Senior Social Development Specialist in the World Bank’s Africa Eastern and Southern (AFE) Social Sustainability and Inclusion team, based in Luanda, Angola. His focus is on social risk management (SRM), in a manner consistent with the Environmental and Social Framework (ESF). He provides direct SRM support to high-risk and complex operations in the portfolio, helping streamline the implementation of the ESF, providing guidance on complex technical issues, undertaking policy dialogue with clients, and supporting initiatives to develop ESF client capacity building.

He has extensive experience managing the social risks, impacts, and opportunities of investment projects, particularly in areas such as involuntary resettlement, stakeholder engagement, grievance mechanisms, social assessments, livelihood restoration, social inclusion, and labor conditions. In his most recent appointment, with the Social Sustainability and Inclusion Global Practice in the Mozambique Country Management Unit, he provided ESF coordination to Bank-funded projects in northern Mozambique high risk operations.

A Mozambican national, before joining the Bank,  he worked with private consultancy firms, assisting public and private sector clients in designing and implementing environmental and social impact assessments, health and safety plans, resettlement plans and risk management approaches and monitoring environmental and social safeguards compliance.
