Edit V. Velényi is an economist with the Health, Nutrition, and Population Anchor of the World Bank. Currently she manages the “Health & Economy Program”. Between 2007 and 2011 she worked as an economist with the Development Impact Evaluation Initiative (DIME) in the Development Economic Research Group (DECRG), and the Development Economics Operations and Strategy (DECOS) Unit. Edit was coordinator of the Malaria Impact Evaluation Program (MIEP), which carried out evaluations in India and 5 countries in Africa. She was co-investigator in two large-scale malaria policy evaluations in Nigeria and Zambia.
In 2007, she was field-based program manager and co-investigator for the evaluation of the Lagos Community Health Plan with the Amsterdam Institute for International Development (AIID), which conducts evaluations of health insurance pilots in Africa, supported by the Dutch Health Insurance Fund (HIF).
She was consultant with the Africa Region's Human Development Unit (2004-2005), and with the HNP Anchor (2002-2003). She co-edited Public Ends, Private Means: The Economics of Strategic Purchasing of Health Services (2007) and co-authored book chapters on health care financing and insurance.
Edit received her Ph.D. in economics from the University of York; an M.A. from SAIS, Johns Hopkins University; and an M.A. from the Budapest Business School.
