I am a third generation Scottish expat. I grew up in Hong Kong and then escaped the UK as is my family’s disposition, taking my first job in Uganda working for an emergency humanitarian NGO after completing a Mechanical Engineering and Project Management degree at Edinburgh University. I worked in humanitarian relief and recovery for five years living and working in Uganda, Angola, Afghanistan and Indonesia, managing post conflict and post natural disaster multi sectoral programs.
In 2008 I moved to China, with my husband, both of us having the idea to learn Chinese. However we arrived just four days after the Wenchuan Earthquake in May, and I started working for the Bank as a Disaster Risk Management Consultant. That how Ive ended up at the Bank and now writing this blog.
