Erika Vargas is a Senior Knowledge Management Specialist at the Social, Urban, Rural and Resilience Global Practice at the World Bank, in Washington D.C., focusing on information and knowledge strategy. She leads and coordinates the knowledge management and communication strategies for lending and technical assistance projects in the Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Unit in the South Asia Region and works closely with the Disaster Risk Management Global Lead in the global knowledge agenda on resilience and disaster risk management. Before joining the World Bank in 2008, she worked as a researcher on peace and conflict resolution, and crime and violence prevention at the Center for Latin American Studies at Georgetown University. Prior to this position she worked as a Diplomat at the Colombian Embassy in Washington D.C.. Erika has more than 15 years of experience in knowledge management, communications and international development. She has earned a Master's of Science (MSc) in Information and Knowledge Strategy from Columbia University and a Master's of Arts (MA) in Sociology and Media Studies from The New School for Social Research (NYC), as well as her undergraduate degree in Political Science from Universidad de los Andes in Colombia.
