Ernani Checcucci is a Senior Trade Facilitation Specialist at the World Bank Group, leading projects and providing support and advisory services for trade facilitation, customs, and border management reforms. Ernani has over 29 years of solid experience in customs and border management, capacity building, and development. He served as Director of Capacity Building at the World Customs Organization (WCO) and as Undersecretary of Customs and International Relations for the Secretariat of Federal Revenue of Brazil (2011 - 2015) and launched critical modernization projects, such as the Brazilian National Trade Single Window, the Authorized Economic Operator Programme, business process reengineering in close partnership with the private sector, the National Targeting Center, enhancement of anti-smuggling functions and land border controls. His international experience includes technical assistance missions to more than 50 countries in the Americas, Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific, and he has collaborated with the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Trade Organization. Ernani is an Engineer and an accredited Customs and Tax Auditor at Brazil’s Secretariat of Federal Revenue and held multiple management positions within this Organization.
