Ernesto Lopez-Cordova, a Mexican national, is the Practice Manager for Industry Solutions team in the Finance, Competitiveness, and Innovation Global Practice at the World Bank Group.

Previously, between 2013-2016, Mr. Lopez-Cordova worked at the Mexican Ministry of Finance, where he served as Head of the Economic Productivity Unit and as Technical Secretariat of Mexico’s National Productivity Council. He worked actively in the design and implementation of public policies aimed at raising productivity in an inclusive manner.

Previously, he worked for 13 years for multilateral organizations, serving as Lead Country Economist for Mexico at the Inter-American Development Bank, as well as Program Manager at the Enterprise Analysis Unit of the International Finance Corporation, World Bank Group. In the past, he also served as Director for Market Access Negotiations at Mexico’s Ministry of Trade and Industry.

He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, as well as master’s and bachelor’s degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He has published in refereed journals on the business environment and its impact on firm performance; on the social and economic impact of trade liberalization; and on the development implications of international remittances; among other topics.
