Esther Gacicio is an Edtech Consultant & Co-Founder of eLearning Solutions (eLS), a company leveraging on digital technology to design, deliver and deploy learning and training solutions, across the spectrum; to the youth, institutions and corporates. She is currently on a short-term consultancy with World Bank as a Consultant for Global EdTech Team (GEAK Unit) and Independent Consultant with Results for Development (R4D). She recently joined the Specialist Network of the EDTEch Hub a global non-profit research partnership on technology in education. Esther previously served as a Senior Assistant Director at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) where she oversaw design, development and sourcing of education technologies to enhance quality, access, equity and relevant education among other projects such as the Kenya education Cloud and Elimika program.
She holds several accolades among them Global Award for Excellence in eLearning at the World Education Congress Global and Awards 2015 as well as the 2011 Technology in Government in Africa (TIGA) Award by United Nations Economic Commission of Africa (ECA). She was a finalist at the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation 2017/2018; a program ran by Royal Academy of Engineering United Kingdom as well as a Metis Fellow having successfully completed the Metis Fellowship Programme in 2018.
Esther is currently serving as a Director in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) board since June 2020, a government institution mandated to promote Technical and Vocational Education and Training for the youth. She also serves as an appointed Independent Director of Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) Management Services Ltd since July 2020 as well as a member of Board of Management (BOM) for Kamwenja Teachers College since 2019.
Esther holds Master’s and Bachelor’s Degrees in Education from University of Nairobi and Moi University respectively and a graduate diploma in Leadership Development in ICT and Knowledge Society from the Dublin City University, Ireland. She is a trained and certified in New Learning Technologies by tele-akademia and in eLearning Technology by University of Colombo School of Computing, Colombo, Sri Lanka. Esther is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in adoption of ICT in Education from the University of Nairobi.
