Esther Naikal is an economist in the Climate Finance and Economics unit of the World Bank’s Climate Change Group where her work focuses on developing methodologies and analytical tools that support countries on adaptation and resilience. Her recent work includes co-leading the adaptation flagship report Rising to the Challenge, and she has supported task teams integrate climate resilience in investment projects and in project economic analysis through the Resilience Rating System, and Country Climate and Development Reports on the Adaptation & Resilience Readiness Assessment which evaluates a country’s whole-of-economy adaptation and resilience readiness and priorities. She also is supporting the development of resilience-related indicators of the World Bank Group Scorecard. Prior to joining the Climate Change Group, Esther worked in the Environment Global Practice of the World Bank where she managed the natural capital and wealth accounting global databases and valuation methodology, featured in the Changing Wealth of Nations report series. Esther has a master’s degree in economics from the University of Maryland College Park.
