Ethel Sennhauser is the Director of the Agriculture Global Practice at the World Bank. The Practice has a threefold focus: Climate-smart and nutrition-sensitive agriculture and inclusive and efficient value chains. As Director, Mrs. Sennhauser oversees the Bank’s agriculture portfolio and leads the Bank’s strategy on food security, nutrition improvement and sustainable agriculture promotion.
Prior to her current position, Mrs. Sennhauser was the Director of Operational Services in the East Asia and Pacific Region. In this role, she managed the operational work of the region, including quality, portfolio and fiduciary aspects. Before this, she was the Sector Manager for Agriculture and Rural Development in the Latin America & Caribbean Region.
Mrs. Sennhauser holds a Ph.D. in Regional Ecology from the University of Buenos Aires and a Masters in Biology and Ecology also from the University of Buenos Aires. She worked extensively with the private sector and academia prior to joining the World Bank in 1998.
In addition to working on various complex operations, Mrs. Sennhauser has been a prolific writer of reports and publications on Agriculture, Rural Development, Environment, and in general on Sustainable Development.
