Fernando Paredes, a Guatemalan national, is the World Bank Senior Operations Officer in Guatemala. He joined the Bank in 2005 as a Resource Management Analyst and worked for the Guatemala, Jamaica and Panama offices. He later worked as an Operations Officer in Guatemala.
Prior to joining the Bank, Fernando worked actively in the pre and post peace signing periods in Guatemala in 1996. During the armed conflict, he worked in the preparation of the peace financing plan and in social projects in the country’s rural areas in matters of health, education, environment and economic development, particularly for population affected by the war. After the peace agreement was signed, he was the national director of the Land Fund project and worked on the resettlement of displaced population and with returnees from Mexico.
Fernando is an economist from the University of San Carlos of Guatemala and has postgraduate studies at the Catholic University of Chile, Nacional Financiera in Mexico and the School of Government in Guatemala.
