Filipa Costa is a Financial Sector Specialist at the World Bank, with a focus on promoting financial inclusion and financial literacy, with a particular emphasis on Mozambique. She has supported government-to-person (G2P) digital payments, expanding financing opportunities for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), developing financial literacy programs, and has conducted research studies.
Throughout her career, Filipa has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to improving financial access for marginalized and underserved populations, especially those in rural areas.
Prior to joining the World Bank, Filipa served as the Country Director at Fundación Capital, where she led initiatives to empower low-income communities through financial inclusion strategies. She also coordinated the Community-based Savings Groups Initiative at the Aga Khan Foundation, supporting grassroots efforts to strengthen financial resilience among vulnerable groups.
Filipa holds a Master’s in Development Studies from the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex, UK, and a Master’s in Business Management from the University of Minho, Braga, Portugal.
