Francisco Obreque is a highly accomplished Senior Rural Development Specialist who leads the climate agenda in Agriculture in Southern and Eastern Africa, based in Washington DC. Francisco has previously served as head of the agricultural program in Malawi and was the focal point for agricultural investments and technical assistance in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
Francisco is deeply passionate about empowering smallholder farmers to succeed by leveraging markets, technologies, and sustainable agricultural practices. He is also committed to mobilizing climate finance to support African countries in their efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
A Chilean national and an Agricultural Engineer with a Ph.D. in Rural Development from the Technical University of Munich, Germany, Francisco is a recognized thought leader in his field. Before joining the World Bank in 2012, he served in several key roles for the Chilean Government and worked as an international consultant for multiple multilateral agencies.
