Frederico is the Practice Manager of the Global Macroeconomics and Debt unit in the Macroeconomics, Trade, and Investment (MTI) Global Practice. Prior to this assignment, he was the Lead Country Economist for Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burundi and São Tomé e Príncipe. He was earlier Lead Economist for Indonesia, and before that, the World Bank’s Senior Economist for India based in New Delhi, and for Malaysia, based in Bangkok. Earlier he also covered Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar.
Frederico joined the World Bank in 2006 in the Economic Policy and Debt department, where he worked on debt relief for poor countries, capacity building for debt management, and debt sustainability analyses. During that time, Frederico enjoyed working with debt managers in many African countries, including the Central African Republic, Togo, Burkina Faso, Mali, Mozambique, and São Tomé e Príncipe.
Prior to joining the World Bank, Frederico worked on emerging-market debt with investment bank Bear Stearns in New York, issuing bonds for emerging-market governments and companies, and provided corporate-finance advisory services to Latin American and European firms.
A native of Brazil, Frederico holds an MA and a PhD in political economy from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, and a BA in Economics and International Studies from Yale University.
