Gabriela Encalada is an Environmental Specialist at the World Bank, currently working as Team Leader on several projects with the Global Practice of Environment, Natural Resources and Blue Economy for the Latin American and Caribbean region (LAC), including the GEF Project on Sustainable Land Management in Chile. Gabriela has led and participated in multiple initiatives focused on biodiversity conservation, forestry, coastal marine and climate change adaptation. As a member of the World Bank Climate Change unit, she has supported various Eastern European countries to develop alliances for the development of carbon markets.
Before joining the World Bank, Gabriela worked as head of the Water Resources Program of the General Secretariat of the Andean Community, for Peru, Bolivia, Colombia and Ecuador, as well as Fundación Futuro Latinoamericano, where she led sustainable development projects for LAC. Gabriela also worked with Ecuador Ministry of the Environment of as the coordinator of a forestry project, and with the Secretary of the Environment for the Municipality of Quito as advisor to the Secretary. Gabriela holds a bachelor's degree in biology and a master's degree in Ecological Economics.
