Gareth Austin is a professor of African and comparative economic history at the Graduate Institute in Geneva. After teaching at a Harambee school in Kenya, he did his BA at Cambridge and his PhD at Birmingham. He previously worked at the University of Ghana and in the economic history department of the London School of Economics.
