Gautam Gustav Bastian is an economist at the World Bank’s Africa Gender Innovation Lab, within the Office of the Chief Economist, Africa Region. His research focuses on gender-based constraints to economic development, especially in the agriculture, entrepreneurship and youth employment sectors. His current work includes impact evaluations of cash transfers, business-to-business mentoring, mobile savings, and startup grants for aspiring young entrepreneurs. He currently works on projects in Nigeria, Ethiopia and Tanzania. Before joining the World Bank, Gautam worked on impact evaluation research at MIT-JPAL, Centre for Microfinance and Harvard Business School. He holds a Master of Public Administration from the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) at Columbia University in the City of New York.
