Gemma Torras Vives leads capacity-building, technical assistance, and prototyping initiatives on digital infrastructure for carbon markets at the World Bank. Her portfolio includes the development and deployment of digital MRV systems, carbon asset registries, trading platforms, and integration with the Climate Action Data Trust.
Previously, Gemma co-led the Disruptive Technologies for Development (DT4D) Program at the World Bank, spearheading efforts to identify and pilot emerging technologies that enhance Bank operations. In this role, she managed innovative use cases, fostered stakeholder engagement, and leveraged AI and distributed ledger technologies to drive new business models across value chains and sectors.
Before joining the World Bank, Gemma held leadership roles at UNDP’s ECA Office, Microsoft Cities, UNESCO, and UN Women. She also co-founded a blockchain-powered startup supporting displaced communities in the MENA region.
She holds a Master of Public Administration in Economic Development and Technology from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Laws in International and European Law from the University of Groningen.
