Gemma Torras Vives leads capacity-building, technical assistance, and prototyping initiatives on carbon markets digital infrastructure at the World Bank. Her portfolio includes the development and deployment of digital MRV systems, national carbon offset registries, trading platforms, and integration with the Climate Action Data Trust.
Previously, Gemma co-led the Disruptive Technologies for Development (DT4D) Program at the World Bank, spearheading efforts to identify and pilot emerging technologies that enhance Bank operations. There, she managed innovative use cases, fostering stakeholder engagement, and leveraging AI and distributed ledger systems to drive new business models across value chains and sectors.
Before joining the World Bank, Gemma held leadership roles at UNDP’s ECA Office, Microsoft Cities, UNESCO, and UN Women. She also co-founded a blockchain-powered startup supporting displaced communities in the MENA region.
She holds a Master’s in Public Administration in Economic Development and Technology from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Laws in International and European Law from the University of Groningen.
