Girija Shivakumar is an award-winning journalist and strategic communications consultant with over ten years of experience working on issues of gender and development in India and the United States. She specialises in developing advocacy and communications strategies that draw on evidence and an analysis of factors that help to mainstream gender issues.
Girija is a co-founder and executive director of ‘We The Women’. She has worked as a consultant for Tina Brown Live Media and also with the ‘Women in the World’ Summit in New York. Some of Girija’s clients include the Asian University for Women, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, UN Women, and the World Bank Group.
Between 2010-14, Girija reported for the Financial Times and The Hindu. In 2008, she also worked with Obama’s Presidential Campaign team in Boston. In 2012, she was awarded the prestigious SOPA (Society of Publishers Asia) Award for Editorial Excellence.
