Girum Abate is an Economist in the country credit risk in the chief risk officer vice presidency of the World Bank. His areas of interest include open macroeconomics, financial economics, climate change and sovereign credit risk. Prior to joining the Bank, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Arizona State University. He has published in the Journal of Macroeconomics, the Energy Journal and Spatial Economic Analysis. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Aarhus University in Denmark.
