Giuseppe Molinario is a geospatial technology consultant for the Open Data for Resilience Initiative (OpenDRI) within the Innovation Lab of the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR). His main work is on the application of geospatial technologies such as Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) in various phases of disaster risk management (DRM) projects. A focus of his work has been to simplify and communicate effectively the machine learning and artificial intelligence applications for DRM. Giuseppe holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Geographical Sciences both from the University of Maryland (UMD), where his research focused on land cover and land use change in tropical forests, specifically in the Congo Basin. Prior to his research at UMD, he worked for the FAO of the UN and the Italian Ministry of the Environment in Rome, Italy.
