Gurpreet is a social scientist actively contributing toward transport policy formulation and knowledge creation with an aim of enhancing sustainable development and reducing absolute poverty through empirical research and objective analysis of phenomena. He works as an Economist with the “Sustainable Mobility for All initiative”—a global platform hosted by the World Bank that unites over 50 organizations to facilitate international cooperation and transform the future of mobility. In this capacity, he has contributed technically to several SuM4All knowledge products, and he also co-led the development of the Transport Global Tracking Framework (GTF) 2.0 – a tool which complements efforts by the UN Statistical Commission to develop a robust country level monitoring framework for transport, in relation to the SDGs. As of 2020, he is part of the team piloting SuM4All tools, including the GTF 2.0, in South Africa. Prior to joining the World Bank in 2018, Gurpreet worked as a financial analyst in Nairobi, Kenya for five years.
He holds a first-class degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Nairobi, Kenya, where he graduated in the top 5% of his class. Gurpreet was awarded a merit-based scholarship for an advanced degree in Economics at the University of Manitoba, Canada. He has also attained a professional certification on transforming urban mobility awarded jointly by the University College of London (UCL), the Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative (TUMI) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
In his free time, Gurpreet enjoys cycling, hiking, and mountaineering – having most recently summited Mount Kenya (16,354 ft).
