Hafsa Alvi is a Consultant with the Education Global Practice and Poverty and Equity Global Practice unit. She primarily works on projects related to education, with a focus on in-service teacher professional development and gender. As part of her work with Education GP, she provides research and technical support for the development of Global Public Goods that aim to strengthen the knowledge base for designing and implementing effective teacher professional development (TPD) programs in low-income contexts. In her role as a consultant with the Poverty and Equity GP, she works on the Maghreb Facility for Women’s Economic and Social Inclusion, where she works on strengthening the evidence base and broad engagement needed to identify and implement policy reforms that effectively contribute to women’s economic and social inclusion.
Prior to joining the Bank, Hafsa worked in the development sector for six years, supporting TPD initiatives and research projects for NGOs in Pakistan, and was part of the Teach for Pakistan program where she taught at a public school in Karachi for two years. Hafsa holds an MA in Education Policy from George Washington University on a Fulbright, and a Bachelor's in Business Administration from IBA, Karachi.
