Mr. Jaafar Friaa, Practice Manager for Urban, Disaster Risk Management, Resilience & Land, Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region.
Since joining the World Bank in 2005, Mr. Friaa has held various assignments, including Program Leader for Sustainable Development and Infrastructure for Maghreb countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region at the World Bank, Program Leader for Pakistan in South Asia Region, Lead Urban Development Specialist in MENA and Senior Environmental Specialist in Water Resources and Environment Department in MENA region. Prior to joining the World Bank, Mr. Friaa worked for 15 years as public servant in his country Tunisia, where he held various positions, including division chief, director and head of department in the National Sanitation Authority and Ministry of Environment and Territorial Development.
Over his more than thirty years of professional experience, Mr. Friaa has compiled a wealth of experience and technical knowledge in areas such urban environment, municipal services and urban infra, territorial development and local governance, Infra delivery & PPP, water and agriculture, climate change and disaster risk management, energy, and transport and digital development, most extensively in the Middle East and North Africa, Eastern Europe, Central Asia and South Asia regions.
