Nutrition Specialist

Janneke Hartvig Blomberg is a Nutrition Specialist with the World Bank, based in the Tanzania Country Office since October 2009 where she has been supporting the Government in raising the profile of nutrition on the political agenda as well as providing technical support on a range of areas and across sectors, but in particular to the National Food Fortification Program. She has a MSc in Public Health Nutrition from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK and a Honors BSc in Nutritional and Nutraceutical Sciences from University of Guelph, Canada. She has previously worked for the WHO collaborating center Metropol University College, Denmark where she was lecturer and coordinator for the international BSc program in Public Health Nutrition and Food Policy and also participated in the EURO-PREVOB project, a European coordination action linking science and policy-making to tackle obesity funded by the European Commission. She has also worked as guest lecturer at Copenhagen University, Denmark as well as an assistant researcher at the Human Nutraceutical Research Center, Canada. She has conducted research on stunting in young children in Zambia in collaboration with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the Institute for Child Health UK and the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia and worked as a nutritionist for a civil society organization in Zambia and with in-patient treatment of severely malnourished children in Malawi.
