Jean-Marie BALAND is a full Professor of economics at the Department of Economics of the University of Namur. His research interests include the analysis of informal institutions in less developed economies, the determinants of deforestation and the consequences of poverty. Current research projects include the determinants of early mortality in South Asia and the definition of new poverty measures allowing for early mortality as a measure of serious deprivation.
