Jeroen Degerickx (PhD) is part of the Agricultural applications team at VITO Remote Sensing (Belgium). He coordinates and executes research projects on agricultural monitoring using Earth Observation (EO) data, with a particular focus on crop type, crop phenology, irrigation, and drought monitoring across different spatial resolutions and scales.
He is particularly passionate about the role of in-situ observations to support EO-based analysis and on boosting uptake of EO-based data and solutions through the development of user-friendly services (e.g. ESA WorldCereal crop mapping system) and capacity building activities, with a particular focus on Africa. As such, he frequently engages in teaching activities on agricultural monitoring, for instance through the ESA EOAfrica R&D initiative.
