Jesko Hentschel was the World Bank’s Country Director for the Maghreb and Malta region from August 2019 till July 2024, based in Rabat. Mr. Hentschel joined the Bank in 1992 and has since worked in Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, Europe and Central Asia as well as South Asia, specializing in poverty reduction and human development, as well as public finance. He was Deputy Director of the World Development Report 2013 that focused on jobs. Before joining the MENA Region, Mr Hentschel was Country Director for Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. A German national, Mr. Hentschel holds graduate degrees in international economics, agricultural economics and social policy from the University of Konstanz (Germany), the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the London School of Economics.
