Joana Monteiro da Mota is an Economist at the European Commission within the Economic and Financial Affairs Directorate (ECFIN) working as the Country Economist for Morocco and Algeria and supporting the European Neighborhood Policy and Macro-Financial Assistance (MFA) operations. Prior to her current role, Joana worked as a consultant in Economics at the World Bank in the Macro Trade and Investment (MTI) Global Practice working for African countries such as Comoros, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, the Republic of Congo, and addressing regional issues within the CEMAC framework. Joana has also undertaken shorter assignments at the Fiscal Affairs Department (FAD) of the IMF, the European Investment Bank, and the Portuguese Permanent Delegation to the OECD. She holds a Research master’s degree in economics from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University.
