Johanna Galan is a Senior Energy Specialist at the World Bank and the Coordinator of the World Bank’s Mission 300 implementation unit. As part of the Africa Infrastructure Directors Front Office team, she is overseeing various work strands underpinning Mission 300 success, including active engagement of its partners, providing strategic advice on delivering on results, and supporting teams in developing national energy compacts.
Johanna has more than a decade of experience in driving energy access in Africa and beyond. In the past, she has held various positions in the World Bank, contributing and guiding project preparation and implementation in operational roles, and leading knowledge products and global advocacy as part of ESMAP. A key focus of Johanna’s work is to mobilize private sector capital and solutions towards closing the energy access gap.
Before joining the World Bank, she helped to set up and co-lead the industry association for off-grid solar. A German national, Johanna holds an MBA from Warwick Business School, a master’s and bachelor’s degree in political science, as well as a bachelor’s degree in international development from the University of Vienna.
