Jorge Thompson Araujo , a Brazilian national, is an economic adviser in the Office of the Vice President, Latin America and the Caribbean. Mr. Araujo joined the World Bank in 1996 as an economist. He has since held various positions in the Middle East and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America and the Caribbean regions, as well as corporate assignments in the organization. Prior to joining the Bank, he was an associate professor of economics at the University of Brasilia, Brazil. Mr. Araujo has published widely in the areas of economic growth, functional distribution of income, and public finance. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Cambridge
and an MSc in economics from the University of Brasilia.
