Jörn Grävingholt is Senior Researcher in the Political Order, Values and Peace Programme, German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE), Bonn, Germany. He currently leads research projects on “Supporting Sustainable Peace” and “Forced Displacement and Migration”. Since 2011, he has been Co-Chair of the German Government’s Advisory Council for Civilian Crisis Prevention.
Jörn’s areas of research include state fragility, peace and statebuilding support, democracy promotion and dynamics of democratic and non-democratic regimes. His recent publications include The Securitization of Foreign Aid (co-ed., Palgrave 2016) and Disaggregating State Fragility: A Method to Establish a Multidimensional Empirical Typology (Third World Quarterly 36:7, 2015) as well as the brand new data project Constellations of State Fragility at statefragility.info.
Jörn studied Political Science, History and Slavonic Studies in Freiburg, earned an MPhil degree in European Studies in Cambridge (UK) and a PhD in Political Science in Berlin (Humboldt University) with a study on Russian regional politics in the 1990s.
