José Julio Casas is a marine biologist specializing in marine and coastal resource management. He is currently the Technical Secretary pro tempore of the Eastern Tropical Pacific Marine Corridor (CMAR), where he coordinates actions that promote the conservation and sustainable use of highly migratory marine and coastal resources that connect the core areas of this initiative. He works closely with the Ministries of Environment of the member countries and the strategic partners that support their activities. Before joining the CMAR, Mr. Casas was the National Director of Coasts and Seas for the Ministry of Environment of Panama, and a professor and researcher at the Faculty of Marine Sciences of the Maritime University of Panama. He has also represented both the Maritime University and the Ministry of Environment on several national and international decision-making bodies.
