Joshua Merfeld is an assistant professor at the KDI School of Public Policy and Management in Sejong City, South Korea. He is also a Research Affiliate at IZA (Institute of Labor Economics) in Bonn, Germany. His research and teaching interests include the microeconomics of development, applied microeconometrics, labor markets in developing countries, and poverty. His previous research has looked at labor productivity and wages, agriculture, structural transformation, poverty, and public works programs. His current work focuses on three separate strands of literature: labor allocation, poverty, and methodologies to improve estimates of statistics of interest to economists and policymakers. His work has appeared in the Journal of Development Economics, the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, and the Journal of Development Studies. Josh received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 2018.
