Juan Manuel Moreno is Lead Education Specialist at the Education Global Practice of the World Bank. Having worked in education development projects in 30 countries of MENA, Latin America, Eastern Europe, Central and East Asia, he is currently managing the Bank´s education portfolio in Egypt. During this tenure at the World Bank, he has also served as Global Lead for Basic Education (2015-2017) and as team leader for Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine Armenia, Azerbaijan and Bulgaria. Before joining the Bank in 2002, he was Associate Professor of Education at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) in Spain. From 1999 to 2002 he served as Vice-Rector of International Relations of UNED and as Secretary General of the Ibero-American Association of Higher Distance Education. He was Editor of Revista de Educación between 1993 and 1999. Dr. Moreno has published nine books and nearly 90 journal articles and book chapters in the fields of education reform, curriculum development, school improvement, and teacher policies. He co-authored the 2005 World Bank first global report on Secondary Education: Expanding Opportunities and Building Competencies for Young People: a New Agenda for Secondary Education. He is also a co-author of the 2013 World Bank Flagship Report on Jobs for Shared Prosperity: Time for Action in the Middle East and North Africa. Juan Manuel holds a M. Ed. (Columbia University, 1987) and a Ph. D. in Education (UNED, 1990).
