Julia Bezgacheva

Data Scientist and Open Data Specialist

Julia joined the World Bank in 2011 as a member of the World Bank Finances team. Here she worked on releasing and expanding the World Bank Group Finances Open Data website, data analysis, establishing policies and procedures for publishing financial data, and consulting on using data in mobile and other applications. In her current role of Data Scientist and Open Data Specialist, Julia works on several pilot projects demonstrating new results and improved operational efficiency that can be achieved by innovative use of external and internal data. She also shares her expertise in Open Data and Data Science with clients and partner organizations.
 
Before the Bank Julia spent 5 years at the Government of the District of Columbia managing high profile transparency and accountability initiatives including the Open Data Catalog, expanding it from 6 to 464 datasets. The DC Data Catalog inspired the creation of the US national data catalog data.gov and in 2009 won Harvard Kennedy School's “Innovations in American Government Award” for Democratization of Government Data. Julia holds PhD in Mathematics.
