Kaara Wainaina has worked as an External Affairs Expert within the PPP Unit of the National Treasury of Kenya since the beginning of 2014. He works on stakeholder management, communication, media relations and capacity building. He also works on awareness-raising and provides technical communication support to the 1st Mover Road PPP Projects currently under implementation in Kenya, as well as to the University Hostel Projects under development.
As a communications specialist, Kaara first worked as a business and economics reporter for NTV, the television arm of Nation Media Group, which has operations across East Africa. In media, Kaara reported on, among other issues, the opening up of Kenya’s energy, telecommunications and rail sectors to private investment.
Later, Kaara did a three-year stint as a communications specialist with the Kenya Electricity Generating Company, where he handled internal and external communications as well as stakeholder management for existing power plants and those under development.
Kaara holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications (specializing in electronic media) from Daystar University, Kenya. He has attended many PPP and Project Finance-related seminars locally and abroad.
