Kamran Akbar is a Senior Social Development Specialist at the World Bank based in Karachi, Pakistan. He brings over thirty years of diversified experience in designing and implementing development projects in disaster risk management, post disaster reconstruction, rural development and social development. He is Task Team Leader (TTL) for the 'Sindh Floods Emergency Housing Reconstruction Project,' reconstructing over 2 million houses destroyed by the 2022 floods in Pakistan. He also manages the Balochistan 'Integrated Flood Resilience and Adaptation Project,' which is rebuilding half a million houses in a seismically active zone, modernizing hydrometeorological services, and rebuilding flood resilient irrigation infrastructure. Before moving to Pakistan, he led the Nepal Earthquake Housing Reconstruction Project that reconstructed nearly three-quarters of a million houses destroyed by 2015 Nepal earthquake. During his service with Agriculture GP in Afghanistan he managed the Afghanistan Rural Enterprise Development project and contributed significantly to the flagship National Solidarity Program. He remained task leader for the Community Livelihood and Infrastructure Project and Southern Area Development Project in insurgency affected areas of Pakistan. He also deigned and led the Punjab Tourism for Economic Growth Project. Prior to joining the Bank, Kamran led the implementation of Pakistan's 2005 earthquake housing reconstruction and 2010 floods rehabilitation. He also served as Project Director of an IDA grant Earthquake Disability project.
