Karen Muramatsu

Economist

Karen Muramatsu, a Japanese-Brazilian national, is an economist in the Economic Policy practice for the Latin America and the Caribbean region at the World Bank, where she focuses on Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. Prior to this role, she served as country economist for São Tomé and Príncipe and worked as a trade economist in the Global Trade practice. In these capacities, she led and contributed to global, regional, and country-specific analytics and programs across all world regions. Her work has encompassed areas such as inclusive growth and trade, including services trade, digital trade, and trade in health services. Karen joined the World Bank as a Young Professional and is particularly interested in how policy can shape the trade-development nexus. She holds an M.A. in International Economics and International Affairs from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), with specializations in Development Economics, Emerging Markets, International Law, and Latin American Studies.
