Kulsum Ahmed is Practice Manager in the Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) Global Practice (GP) of the World Bank. In her current role, she is responsible for providing strategic, technical and operational leadership to the ENR GP staff working in the Europe and Central Asia Region; contributing to the development and implementation of the global ENR GP strategy for addressing environmental and natural resource management issues; managing the ENR GP portfolio and pipeline for Europe and Central Asia region; and working closely with external and internal partners to ensure that the ENR GP agenda in the Europe and Central Asia region is complementary to and is effectively integrated with partners’ agendas. Over her 22 year career in the World Bank, she has led projects in the Latin America and Caribbean, Middle East and North Africa and Asia Regions, and led the Bank-wide practice on environmental institutions and governance, as well as pollution management and environmental health. Kulsum has authored numerous publications on renewable energy, environment, health, strategic environmental assessment and industrial pollution topics. She studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge University and has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Imperial College, London.
