Laura Bernal Bermúdez is a lecturer at Universidad del Rosario in Colombia. She is a lawyer from Colombia with experience in human rights, administrative and constitutional law. She has worked for the state, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; for companies, in a commercial law firm; and with civil society, in Redress and Oxfam GB. She finished an MSc in Human Rights from the Department of Sociology at LSE and has a DPhil from the Department of Sociology at the University of Oxford. Her research focuses on business involvement in human rights violations in Colombia, and particularly on corporate complicity with grave human rights violations committed in the course of the armed conflict. She is currently working on several projects that investigate mechanisms that could allow increased accountability of businesses for their role in these violations. Together with Professor Leigh A. Payne and Gabriel Pereira, she has a forthcoming book (Cambridge University Press) on corporate accountability and transitional justice.
