Laura Hinson is a Social and Behavioral Scientist at ICRW with more than eight years of experience in research and evaluation, with specific expertise in family planning, adolescents and gender. Dr. Hinson uses both quantitative and qualitative methodologies to evaluate programs—such as a child marriage intervention in Malawi—and develop new measures; for example, of dyadic reproductive decision-making. She recently spearheaded the development of a positive youth development measurement framework for USAID’s YouthPower initiative. Dr. Hinson’s recent work includes a mixed-methods study on access to SRH services of adolescents living in slum communities in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and formative research in Zambia on the nature of sexual relationships and how that influences uptake and continued use of family planning. Prior to joining ICRW in 2013, Dr. Hinson worked as a research assistant at Johns Hopkins University for a variety of family planning-related research and policy projects. She has a PhD from the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and an MPH from Department of Health Behavior (formally: Health Behavior and Health Education) at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health.
