Laurence Hart has been the International Organization for Migration’s Chief of Mission and Special Envoy in Afghanistan since January 2016. Between September 2011 and January 2016, he was Head of the Migrant Assistance Division at IOM Headquarters in Geneva. Prior to this he was IOM Chief of Mission in Libya (2006-2011), Tunisia (2001-2006), and Technical Cooperation Officer in the Regional Office for Central America and Mexico (1999-2001).
Before joining IOM, Mr. Hart worked for OSCE and the United Nations Transitional Administration for Eastern Slavonia (UNTAES).
He holds a Master’s Degree in Human Rights and Democratization from the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratization in Venice, Italy and a degree in Political Science from the University of Turin.
