Lena Gempke is a consultant with the South Asia Vice Presidents Unit and the Governance and Public Institutions Global Practice. Her work centers on analyzing the political economy dimensions of contemporary economic development challenges, including climate change, inequality, and gender issues. Lena is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Development Economics at SOAS, University of London, researching the causes, experiences, and effects of household debt in the Global South, with a particular emphasis on gendered dynamics of debt repayments.
