Luis Iñaki Alberro is a Senior Social Protection Specialist and Task Team Leader at the World Bank. Since joining the Bank in 2021, he has supported the development of digital social protection delivery systems in West Africa, including dynamic social registries and foundational IDs. In his current role, he is the lead for Togo in the West Africa Unique Identification for Regional Integration and Inclusion (WURI) Project, which aims to develop interoperable foundational identifiers to improve access to services. He also co-leads Togo’s Program for Results to establish a national social safety net and provides technical assistance for the Sahel Adaptive Social Protection Program (SASPP). Luis previously served as Director General of Geostatistics and Beneficiary Registries in Mexico. Before that he worked as a Financial Researcher at Mexico´s Central Bank, and he implemented a G2P payments system through a network of rural banking agents for the conditional cash transfer program Oportunidades supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He also worked as Associate Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago focusing on payment systems. Luis holds bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and economics from the University of Chicago as well as a master’s in public administration in International Development from Harvard Kennedy School.
