Lynne D. Sherburne-Benz is the World Bank’s Regional Director for Human Development in the South Asia Region. Before assuming this role, she was Practice Director in the Social Protection and Jobs Global Practice covering multiple regions of the world, including Europe and Central Asia, Middle East North Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, and Sub-Saharan Africa. Since 1985, she has held a number of other positions at the World Bank, including Senior Regional Advisor to the Vice President of the Africa Region, Sector Manager for Social Protection in Africa and Advisor to the Bank’s Managing Director. She has a PhD in International Trade, International Finance, and Development Economics from the Fletcher School at Tufts University. Her publications include Evaluating Social Funds: A Cross-Country Analysis of Community Investments (co-authored with Laura B. Rawlings) and Social Risk Management: The World Bank's Approach to Social Protection in a Globalizing World (co-authored with Robert Holzmann and Emil Tesliuc).
