Maarten Bosker is Professor of International Trade and Development at the Erasmus School of Economics Rotterdam, and the Tinbergen Institute. He is also affiliated to CEPR, the London School of Economics, and CESifo. His research interests center around trying to better understand the role of geography in shaping economic development and (international) trade. His work, which is mostly empirical, has among others been published in the Review of Economics and Statistics, the Journal of the European Economic Association, the Journal of Urban Economics and the Journal of Development Economics. He is currently working on several different projects. One that shows the importance of a network perspective to better understand the gains from trade in today’s globalized value chains. Another that aims to identify how India’s domestic infrastructure has conditioned the effect of its rapid trade liberalization in the early 1990s. And, finally, an early stage project that aims to identify how legal commodity price shocks affect the choice to cultivate coca in Colombia.
