Maja Bosnic is an economist with 20 years of expertise in public financial management and gender-responsive budgeting, with a focus on international development projects. She served as the Team Leader for one of the largest global initiatives on gender budgeting, the Gender Budgeting in Ukraine Project, funded by Sida, from 2013 to 2020. This project aimed to support the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine and all line ministries in integrating gender considerations into financial and budgetary policies and programs.
Ms. Bosnic has collaborated extensively with major international financial institutions, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group. She played a pivotal role in developing innovative tools for introducing gender and green budgeting. Notably, as the lead consultant with the World Bank's PEFA Secretariat, she was instrumental in creating new methodologies to ensure gender equality is embedded in public finance management processes, including the PEFA Assessment for Gender Responsiveness in Public Finance. Additionally, she contributed to the UNDP/OECD/UN Women Working Group in developing SDG 5.c.1, which focuses on financing for gender equality. Her work with the IMF includes designing and implementing a range of global training programs in gender and green budgeting.
Previously, Ms. Bosnic was the Sector Lead for Governance at Niras International Consulting, where she coordinated governance projects across 23 offices worldwide. She now runs her own consultancy, advising on green and gender budgeting. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in gender-responsive budgeting and finance, she is also a sought-after speaker on the intersection of gender and finance, having delivered a TED Talk at the TEDWomen Conference in Palm Springs in 2021.
