Financial Sector Development Specialist, GIZ

Makaio Witte is a financial sector development specialist at the German development agency GIZ. In his current position as advisor to the program to support the Partnership “Making Finance Work for Africa” he is in charge of the program’s work on banking regulation and supervision across a broad spectrum of countries. Prior to joining GIZ, Makaio worked at the Finance and Private Sector Development Department of the World Bank's Africa Region. Makaio’s research and work has concentrated on the impacts of the Global Financial Crisis on developing countries, international regulatory reform, prioritization and sequencing in implementing international regulatory standards in less-developed financial systems, regional financial integration and cross-border banking in Africa. Makaio holds an MA in Public Policy from the Hertie School of Governance and a BA in International Relations from the Technical University of Dresden.
